Eliminate Healthcare-Associated Infections
Train Staff to Understand and Prevent Infection Transmission in Healthcare Settings

Each year almost two million patients in the United States contract an infection during their hospitalization and as many as 99,000 die as a result. Greater than 70% of the bacteria that cause these infections are resistant to at least one antibiotic most commonly used for treatment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Healthcare-Associated infections are one of the top ten leading causes of death in the United States. Healthcare personnel play the most significant role in the transmission and prevention of infections acquired in healthcare settings. The six courses that comprise APIC’s Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Elimination Library educate healthcare workers on the appropriate precautions and guidelines to prevent the transmission of infections. Given the unnecessary deaths that could be prevented and the suffering that could be eliminated, as well as the money that could be saved, no healthcare organization can risk ignoring the benefits of training staff about preventing HAI transmissions.
